Kay of Ammonite Designs says: "Having spent a lot of time as a child on the Jurassic Coast in Dorset England, I grew up wondering and appreciating the beauty of natural rocks and minerals, not to mention the beautiful fossils I used to discover and collect with my father.
As I grew older, this interest grew into an appreciation
of ancient cultures, their designs and methods of making beautiful pieces of art using, to us, very low tech methods.
♦ Then one day, whilst looking for the perfect necklace to wear to a function, I had a flash of inspiration, why not try making this item
of jewellery myself? "
Now, combining ancient methods and modern design, together with the best quality materials we have Ammonite Designs
Ammonites were free-swimming molluscs of the ancient oceans, living around the same time that the dinosaurs walked the Earth and disappearing during the same extinction event. Fossilised
shells are usually, but not always, beautiful spirals. - so called in tribute to those days as a child and angst-ridden teenage trawling the Dorset beaches.
Where the past endures the present to see the future. Where the ancient arts of the Vikings are combined with beautiful Austrian Swarovski Crystal, where Chain Maille is formed into elegance.
As
with any objects that are handmade, no two items of jewellery will ever be the same. This unique design makes for unusual and attractive items. We use semi-precious gemstones, Swarovski
crystals, glass beads, silver plated wire and many more materials and techniques.
